Keenan stadium is a multi-purpose stadium as well as an International Cricket stadium in Jamshedpur. It has hosted many international Cricket matches in its ground. However, this ground has been venue for football and archery also.
This stadium was built in 1939 and named after the former General Manager of Tata Steel John Lawrence Keenan. The stadium is situated in Northern Town Bistupur and is owned and managed by Tata Steel. It can accommodate about 20000 people.
This ground has witnessed many Ranji Trophy matches for Bihar (now Jharkhand Cricket Team). The first International match played in the ground was a One Day International (ODI) played between West Indies and India in December 1983.
The ground also hosted other ODI matches, out which India could bag only one, played in 2000 against South Africa, by 6 wickets.
The stadium was defamed in2002-2003 during India vs. West Indies match, when the crowd turned violent and thrown crackers on the field during play.
Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has played many matches for Jharkhand in this ground.
The ground is featured in Hindi feature film, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, a biopic on Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
At present the site is venue for several matches for ISL (Indian Soccer League). Some of the matches have been played and some are to be played in recent future.
