Forces ring Dalma forests

Jamshedpur, March 15 (Source: The Telegraph): Armed with intelligence inputs on the movement of Maoists, paramilitary forces, a part of Operation Greenhunt, have surrounded the Dalma hills.

The forces reached the sensitive pocket in the small hours and fanned out to villages, where the rebels are believed to be holed up.

Konkadasa, tucked away in the dense forests of Dalma 40km from the city, is the focus of the search.

Of the six companies of CRPF (7th battalion) deployed in Patamda, Dalma and Bodam, three are currently engaged in the operation.

Jawans are building rapport with villagers to zero in on Maoist dens.

They have also adopted a different combing strategy. They are climbing the hills in the evening and return to base in the morning.

Seraikela-Kharsawan SP Abhishek confirmed intensive operation in the forests.

A senior CRPF officer, however, admitted that they were yet to get results of the special operation. “Villagers, in most cases, are not co-operating fearing revenge by rebels.”

The officer said they had information that the rebels frequented Konkadasa. “Last night, we spent four hours in the village and adjoining Kuiani, but in vain,” he said.

He added that though the people of Konkadasa were friendly, they refused to open their mouth about rebels.

Arup Mochi is the CPI(Maoist) area commander in Dalma and Patamda. He enjoys tacit support of people in Mochidih and Kuiani in Bodam block.

Intelligence sources revealed that another armed squad operating in Ayodhya Pahar of Ichagarh provides aid and shelter to Mochi’s squad.
