Water surfing back again

Jamshedpur, Feb. 6 (Source - The Telegraph): Those seeking an adrenaline rush need look no further. Thanks to Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF), water surfing at Dimna Lake is back with a bang.

Keen to promote water sports, the events are no longer restricted to those who are part of TSAF’s outdoor development programmes.

The general public is welcome too.

Water surfing, which had started about five years ago, was discontinued due to logistical problems. “We discontinued the sport because of logistical problems. But now we have re-launched it,” said P.P. Kapadia, the secretary of TSAF.

According to him, they have bought a fibre raft and special ropes to conduct the activity. “At present we have a single motor boat but more would be arranged if the response from people is positive. We have re-launched water surfing for those taking part in our outdoor development programmes but it is also open to the public,” he said.

Those who are interested can contact the JRD Tata Sports Complex office.

“The fee structure has to be properly worked out, but it would be quite affordable. The activity would be conducted in an earmarked circuit of the lake,” the TSAF secretary said.

R.S. Pal, an experienced instructor with TSAF, has been asked to handle the boat, said Kapadia, adding that parasailing was also among the other activities.

“We conduct parasailing at the Sonari aerodrome. It is popular among people and we also want to do the same with water surfing,” he added.

A 50-member team from a business management institute recently enjoyed the sport in the lake. TSAF conducts outdoor programmes for management institutes, the corporate sector and school and college students.

While rock climbing, abseiling and fun games were conducted at Tumung, water sports is popular at Dimna. The Dalma Hills is reserved for trekking.

Raft making and canoeing is also part of water sports activities.

“Teams participating in our programmes always appreciate and enjoy such activities in the lake. We have re-launched water surfing keeping this aspect in mind,” Kapadia said.
