Rainwater hope for units

Jamshedpur, Feb. 5 (Source - The Telegraph): The Adityapur Industrial Area Development Authority (Aiada) will teach industrialists how to install the rainwater harvesting system at their units.

Acknowledging the benefits of rainwater harvesting, Aiada has included the subject in its “quality week programme” list. Conceding it was the first time the issue would be taken up in “quality week programme”, senior Aiada officials said experts from this field would take up the vital topic with entrepreneurs during a seminar on February 9.

Aiada secretary Shivendra Singh said the “quality week” would also focus on improving products and environment quality in Adityapur. He added that industrialists should know about the benefits of rainwater harvesting, which is necessary to conserve the depleting water table.

At present, most industrialists either get piped water from Sitarampur dam or have their own bore-well. “The increasing number of bore-wells in residential and industrial areas of Adityapur will bring down the water table here after a definite period. Aiada will inform the entrepreneurs about this problem and also request them to transfer rainwater on their office premises back to water table,” said an Aiada official.

He added that the industrialists could use the water accumulated on their terrace to transfer it back into the groundwater table. “It is a very simple method and is not at all costly. We are sure that the industrialists will install these systems on their premises after knowing its benefit,” he said.

The industrialists also claimed that the seminar would prove important for the new industries, which are coming up in the region. They added that water harvesting system was must for new industries to get a no-objection certificate from the Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board.

“Such functions will inform the industrialists about the latest ways of rainwater harvesting and how it can be effectively used. It is necessary that industrialists take all measures to conserve rainwater,” said Adityapur Small Industries Association general secretary Santosh Khaitan.

He claimed that a number of existing industries had already installed rainwater harvesting system on their premises.

The “quality week” would also focus on improving the product quality at the industrial area and tell them on methods to adopt safety on their premises. The “quality week” is being organised from February 4.
